In October 2011 I left Switzerland to go live on Koh Tao, Thailand, for a while (…a long while, since I haven’t left yet…). Here I met the amazing Cynthia. Thanks to her I discovered Yoga on a whole new level. She has the gift to make each class exciting, challenging and suitable for everyone’s needs, whether it is your first time on the mat or you have been practicing for years. She is also a master in making anyone go to their (imaginary) limits and beyond. Cynthia managed to get me into a head stand pretty quickly after I started practicing with her even though I had refused to even think about going upside down due to some irrational mental (obviously!) block. But she showed me that absolutely nothing was impossible if you work hard and be patient…and manage to mute the little voice in your head – one of the important life lessons that Yoga is teaching.
Apart from being a fantastic teacher, Cynthia is also a girl after my own heart. Her love and respect for all beings and the planet are very inspiring and just like me, she loves to talk about her kitty children all day long…
In June she and her partners will open their own Dive and Yoga shop – Ocean Sound Dive & Yoga – here on Koh Tao, where they will not only offer diving and amazing Yoga classes but other exciting events and, last but not least, it will be the place where I will continue my yoga studies when I return from Koh Phangan.
I consider myself lucky that I met Cynthia and I am able to practice and evolve with her. I found in her THE teacher who inspires and guides (and gets!) me, which is so important in Yoga. I doubt I would be going to Koh Phangan in a couple of weeks if it weren’t for Cynthia, but here I am, getting ready to immerse myself in 200 hours of Yoga Teacher Training at The Sanctuary with Clara Roberts-Oss and Carolyn Anne Budgell. Exciting times!
